The Angus Youth Leadership Clinic was again
a success this year. The leadership clinic was
held in Armidale, beginning on Thursday the
11th and finishing on Sunday the 14th of February.
Present at the leadership clinic were the 2010
Landmark Youth Ambassadors, 2010 New Zealand
Exchangee Nicky Smith, along with the Angus
youth management committee.
A major focus of the Angus Youth Leadership
Clinic was planning activities for this upcoming
year, such as state-based activities along with
the annual Angus Youth Roundup.
The four days of this clinic were packed with
activities, such as a visit to Ben Nevis Angus
stud at Walcha, a resume and job application
workshop, a trip to Echidna Gully for an outdoor
team building activity, along with planning
sessions of events for the year.
A trip to Erica and Stuart Halliday’s
Angus stud, Ben Nevis, allowed all Leadership
Clinic participants to improve their judging
skills with heifer selection exercises, while
also learning about the
importance of health and nutrition in the breeding
of cattle.
A leadership activity/team challenge was held
at Echidna Gully, just outside of Armidale.
We were split into teams, built a raft from
limited resources, and then listened to instructions
while racing against the teams in the dam. This
activity taught us that working in a team is
vital to achieve results.
The resume and job application workshop taught
participants how to write a resume that would
best fit the job we were applying for. This
workshop also outlined important aspects of
an interview, such as the selection criteria
and how to act while in an interview.
The Angus Youth leadership clinic was enjoyable
for all who attended, and would not have been
possible without the help of Jo Milward and
Bob Dent. They both invested many hours into
making this clinic run smoothly, which turned
out a great success.
