Shelly Piper
Vice Chairperson / QLD State Representative
My involvement with Angus cattle started when my family established our own Angus stud, Trio Angus in 2003.
My involvement with Angus Youth includes being an Ambassador, attending Roundups & Leadership Clinic, winning the 2008 MSU Scholarship and being on the Angus Youth Management Committee.
Last year I finished studying Rural Science at UNE and I’m now based in QLD working for Kerwee Lot Feeders and their marketing division, Stockyard Beef.
This year as QLD rep I would like to try and offer more opportunities to QLD Angus Youth members, along with working on establishing a more active and professional national Angus Youth Alumni group.
Several Angus members have been involved with organising the first northern Angus Youth event for year with the QLD Junior Angus Show being held on the 24th & 25th April in Bell.
Another positive for our northern Angus Youth members is that the 2011 RoundUp is being held in Glen Innes NSW which may make it more accessible for some of our
members.
If any QLD members have suggestions for the Angus Youth program or want to be more involved please feel free to contact me (0428 315 331 trioangus@gmail.com)

Queensland FarmFest Field Days
The farmers came from near and far,
Fresh mud splattered every car,
The rains had come, so they thought it best,
To pull out the gum boots and head to Farmfest.
The Queensland Angus tent pulled the crowds in,
Where else could they find what they found within?
Try to guess the weight of the steer,
They'd win a great lot of CAAB if their guess came near.
Or drop some tickets in the raffle drawn each day,
If their number was called, a great lot of prizes they could take away.
The barbeque was sizzling with CAAB to taste test,
Sheepishly they'd ask, “Can we have some more? That's the best.”
Young people drifting around, pulled up at the Angus Youth stand,
Fascinated by the scholarships, events and opportunities at hand.
I told them all about it, gave them flyers, stickers, badges, the lot,
They signed up to receive all the info, and many new names I got.
They came, they learnt, and now they know,
Just what Angus Youth offers, and the places they can go.
They'll spread the word, and we just might find,
We'll have some new Queensland members in time.

QLD Young Beef Producers Forum 2007
The third annual Young Beef Producers' Forum was held in Roma on the 15 th & 16 th November 2007. Once again the event was a success, with over 100 participants aged between 18 and 35 years.
The forum provided an enjoyable combination of educational and social aspects, designed to improve participants' knowledge of the beef industry, and provide valuable networking opportunities.
Over the two days, fifteen industry leaders enlightened their audience with thought provoking presentations on numerous topics within five specific areas – production, business, sustainability, family communication and health, and the feedlot industry.
A tour of Australian Country Choice's Brindelly Park feedlot near Roma proved to be a well received experience, and provided a variation in learning environment for the participants.
The Sandon Glenoch Angus dinner allowed great networking opportunities, and was a night of great entertainment, with live music and guest speaker, Sean Wilmore (as seen on Australian Story) fascinating his audience with tales of his courageous world tour to increase awareness of global ranger activities through the creation of his DVD, The Thin Green Line.
Excellent sponsorship and the generosity of speakers amongst other factors were important to the success of the 2007 forum. Plans are currently underway to hold the forum again in 2008, with possibilities and changes being assessed for improvement and progression of the event, so that we can continue to provide such a service to the youth of the Queensland beef industry.
