Stewart Award

(Formerly the Angus Youth Helper Award)

The Angus Youth program relies on voluntary help. Without the generous assistance, support and enthusiasm of these volunteers, the program would not be possible.

The Angus Youth Helper of the Year Award was started in 2001 in an attempt to recognise a person that has contributed a large amount of time to the Angus Youth program that year.

The winner is announced at the Angus Youth Roundup Special Dinner. Their name is inscribed on a plaque which is displayed in the Angus Society boardroom and they are presented with an engraved photo frame.

It was thought appropriate to name the award after Bruce and Pat Stewart, Dunlop Park Angus, Tasmania as they have contributed selflessly to the program for many years. In particular, each year they traveled to Wodonga to assist with the running of the Angus Youth National Judging Competition. They ferried people to and from transport depots, pick the lunches up, help with the distribution and collection of place and question cards during the animal judging, and are always there offering to help and providing support and guidance.

The 2007 recepients of the Stewart Award, were Bruce and Cherry Steel, Ben Nevis Angus, Walcha, NSW. The award was presented by Bruce and Pat Stewart (after whom the Award is named) at teh 2008 Sydney Royal Easter Show.

At the end of each the current Angus Youth Management Committee selects the receipent/s of the Stewart Award, based upon their outstanding contribution to the Angus Youth program.

Their generous support has helped to develop Angus Youth as one of the largest beef youth groups in Australia.
