Alice Hall
TAS State Representative
This year the Tasmanian Angus committee gave scholarships to three young people to attend the Round-up and represent Tasmania. All up seven Tasmanians attended the RU this year, these were, Thomas and Rachel Stewart, Kym Rogers, Riley and Toby Hall, Courtney Hardstaff and myself. Everyone performed well in both the junior judging and the junior handlers. I was lucky enough to be placed Reserve Champion Intermediate junior judge.
Tasmania have recently had three angus cattle sales, those being Antu Angus, Quarter-way Angus and Dunlop Park Angus, all three were successful sales. Tasmanian breeders are confident that the trend will continue for the
remaining stud sales.
I am currently in the process of forming a Tasmanian Angus Youth committee. I am confident of
achieving this successfully.
At the annual Landfall Angus Youth National Roundup, Bendigo , Victoria , in January, many youth Tasmanians made the journey to participate. The Tasmanian State Angus Committee generously offered three bursaries to attend and the recipients of these included: Benjamin Noble, Elliot, Kate Murfet, Wynyard and Josh Mitchell, Oaks. Participants also at the Roundup from Tasmania also included Alice , Riley and Toby Hall, Scottsdale and Thomas Stewart, Thirlstane.
Some of the results from the Roundup include: Junior encouragement award to Thomas Stewart and Champion Junior Judge to Kate Murfet. Kate also exhibited the champion junior heifer, BST Tullatoola Yo Yo C002, a ballot animal kindly donated by BST Tullatoola Red Angus, Molong, NSW.
The show season starts in September so, get involved in the paraders and junior judging competition.
