The sixth annual WA Youth Cattle Handlers Camp was held on Thursday, April 15, Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17, at the Brunswick showgrounds. The three-day camp aims to educate young people between the ages of 8 and 25 in various aspects of the cattle industry and to ensure cattle handling skills are not lost to the industry.
As with past camps, the WAYCHC committee offered a comprehensive program of activities catering to all levels of experience for both dairy and beef cattle enthusiasts.

Over the three days, attendees gained knowledge and hands-on experience in cattle handling skills in and out of the show ring, safety, cattle health and nutrition, and public speaking through junior judging.

Other topics included fertility, structural conformation, bio-security, protocols, judging techniques, low stress stock handling skills and many other areas and aspects relating to the care, management and showing of cattle.

Once again this year Angus Australia was a major sponsor of this event with two participants given the opportunity to attend the Harvey cattle assessment school in July.

This year it was exciting to host guest judges from over east, Stephen and Noeleen Branson, Banquet Angus stud, Mortlake, Victoria.

The 2010 National Judging Competition was held in April, with both Andrew Richardson, Kentdale Grazing, Denmark and myself having the opportunity to represent WA.
