The Roundup brought together over 100 young beef cattle enthusiasts from all mainland states, as well as representatives from New Zealand and Canada, to learn and develop their beef industry skills.

Participants between 8 and 25 years of age were divided into junior, intermediate and senior groups and took part in a range of activities – both practical and theoretical. For juniors the sessions included halter making, show preparation and how animals work. Intermediates and seniors tackled topics such as beef industry profit drivers, meat science, herd health and career options and all groups took part in the judging and parading competitions.

Along with the hard work, there was still plenty of fun on offer during the Roundup, with the ‘Barnyard Olympics’ – which included kids and adults alike getting soaked with water and taking part in egg races - getting the thumbs up from many as their favourite event. Showing and parading were also popular activities as was the mock bull auction – this year conducted using the Helmsman format.
