2007 Landfall Angus Youth National Roundup
ROUNDUP SUCCESS
The Landfall Angus Youth National Roundup, held from January 11 to 14
at the Glen Innes Showground, NSW was a great success.
Originally scheduled for Armidale, NSW, the event was moved after a severe
hailstorm just before Christmas caused major damage to that city’s
Livestock Exhibition Centre.
Just over 120 young beef enthusiasts from around Australia aged between
8 and 25 attended the roundup, participating in interactive beef industry
sessions as well as junior judging and parading competitions.
Frank and Ed Archer from the Archer family’s Landfall Angus, Tas,
made the trip to Glen Innes. Landfall Angus is the naming sponsor of the
event and being able to attend the roundup was a chance to see firsthand
the opportunities their sponsorship helps provide participants.
“I think it benefits them to be meeting people with the same interests
as well as improving their knowledge of cattle and helping them contribute
to the beef industry,” said Ed Archer. Ed was also pleased by the
strong Tasmanian presence at Glen Innes.
“As the naming sponsor it is good to see seven Tasmanian participants,
hopefully we can encourage more to attend in the future.”
It was the goal of organisers to successfully combine education and enjoyment.
Angus Youth member and roundup coordinator Eliza Redden, NSW, said she
hoped the roundup would make participants ‘more excited and interested
about pursuing a career in the beef industry’, and thought the roundup
provided valuable opportunities to young people interested in the beef
industry.
“It’s a really important opportunity for a young person to
improve their skills and network with not only other young people, but
beef industry people of all ages.”
A highlight of the Landfall Angus Youth National Roundup is the presentation
of a number of major awards. The 2007 awards included:
